🌿 The Bru-Vân Kiều Ethnic Group
✨ Highlights: Unique Spiritual Life, Surname "Hồ", Traditional Stilt Houses
The Bru-Vân Kiều people have lived for generations in the majestic Trường Sơn mountains and possess a unique spiritual life. Remarkably, many in northern central Vietnam have adopted the surname "Hồ" as a gesture of reverence and respect for President Hồ Chí Minh, a cultural pride similar to that found in the Brau Ethnic Group.
Historical Origins
The Bru-Vân Kiều are indigenous residents of central Indochina. Historical upheavals led to various migrations, including a group that settled in the western part of Quảng Trị province. The group is divided into five local subgroups: Bru, Vân Kiều, Mang Cong, Trì, and Khùa.
Social Institutions & Housing
They live in clusters called Vil (villages), managed by a village chief and a council of elders. They practice collective ownership of natural resources, reflecting a communal lifestyle reminiscent of the systems seen in the Bo Y Ethnic Group.
