🌏 The Bo Y Ethnic Group: Traditions
✨ Highlights: Traditional Social Structure, Cosmology Beliefs, Unique Stilt Architecture, Traditional Attire
The Bo Y people live in harmony with nature in the high mountains. Promoting sustainable tourism in these areas not only helps boost their income but also encourages the protection of their beautiful, pristine environment, mirroring the community-based values seen in the Ba Na Ethnic Minority.
Social Structure
Historically, the Bo Y social system involved village chiefs and administrators. Leaders were often respected elders (Pao ta mua), who were literate and deeply knowledgeable about the customs and traditions of their people.
Religion & Beliefs
The Bo Y worldview is layered. They believe in a vertical universe: the mortal realm where humans live, the upper realm of deities, and the lower realm of earth spirits living underground.
Housing
As agriculturalists, the Bo Y often choose to settle near water sources. Before building a house, they perform a land worship ceremony on a chosen plot (typically 40-50m²) to pray for prosperity, health, and stability. This architectural reverence for the land is also a distinctive feature found in the Bru Vân Kiều Ethnic Group.
Clothing & Cuisine
Bo Y men traditionally wear four-paneled, collarless shirts. Women wear five-paneled shirts with vibrant decorative fabrics. Their cuisine is deeply tied to their rice and corn farming, with self-sufficiency remaining a key aspect of their daily life.
